Module 3 continued..:
Exercises to sharpen your wit.
Nothing is
achieved without practice and application.
Exercise Five: I assume, I assume, I assume…
… …
Take statements from newspapers and articles and
list assumptions that
can be derived from them.
Benefit:
We are practicing here one of the essential
building block skills in
humor, the ability to dig out a collection of possible
assumptions from
one statement.
Example:
Let take the following statement, which appeared
in a national
newspaper.
U2 singer Bono is to be
among the backers of a new restaurant in
New York.
Lets list some assumptions
? Bono
has invested money
? Bono
has not put in money but the use of his name
? Its
not New York In America but a place called New York in
Holland or elsewhere
? The
statement is true? Maybe
Bono will be a backing singer amongst other on the
opening night of the restaurant
Now get a local paper and ‘assume’ some
statements until there is
nothing else to assume from them.
